Moen S6320 Velocity

Editors' Rating:

This Moen shower head offers a wide variety of designs, so you can have a uniform look to your bathroom if you use Moen for your faucets and other bathroom fixtures. You can get one with a chrome finish if you prefer one that is visually arresting.

It looks great with its bright and highly reflective metallic finish. And it won’t flake, tarnish, or corrode. Or you can opt for more subdued looks, such as brushed nickel, brushed bronze, antique bronze, or oil-rubbed bronze.

The Velocity comes in a huge 8-inch shower head. But the Velocity’s appeal isn’t just for its looks. It’s more for its exclusive Immersion technology that gives you a 2-function shower head. You can opt to shower under a gentle rainfall from up to 100 nozzles. Or you can choose a self-pressurized spray from only 30 nozzles instead. The new self-pressurizing technology channels the water with three times the spray power so you can rinse much more thoroughly. You’ll just need to flick a lever to change from one option to another.

The maximum water flow for the Moen Velocity is 2.5 gallons per minute (gpm). But you can also get a WaterSense-certified model with a maximum flow rate of just 2 gpm. Either way, you get a lifetime limited warranty for the model as long as you’re the owner of the house in which it was first installed. Moen promises that the Velocity will be drip-free and leak-free during normal use, and that the parts and the finishes will be free from defects.

It’s very easy to install, and you can even increase its water flow by removing the flow restrictor.

The Moen customer support is also quite excellent, and chances are that if you call them with a question, you’ll get a nice friendly customer support employee who will answer your questions with knowledgeable answers. So with this Moen, you have a great-looking shower head with functional options and superior reliability.

So what’s the catch? Well, there’s just one—it may be a bit on the expensive side. You may find that it is a bit more expensive than other shower heads with similar features.

AKDY AZ6021 Rain Style

Editors' Rating:

This is rainshower model, but it doesn’t have to be attached to the ceiling. You can just purchase an extension arm so that you can replace your wall-mounted shower head with this AKDY shower head.

It looks very modern with its square shape measuring 8 inches on each side. It also features 100 rubber nozzles. Also, you’re not limited to a straight downward trajectory for the water if you don’t want to. You can adjust its angle to whatever you want.

Its look is a meld of its brushed chrome construction with its solid plastic finish. But it’s not just any plastic. It’s actually solid heat-resistant plastic. So it looks much more expensive that you’ll be amazed at its low price. With this modern design, the installation is also easier. Because of the wide face of the shower head, you maximize the coverage area of the shower water.

And its lighter and thinner build results in higher water pressure. In fact, you can use it as a massaging shower head even though it only has one setting. With its adjustable angles, you can direct the water to the specific body part you want to massage with the water.

The rubber nozzles in the AKDY AZ6021 are also special. They allow for the easy and quick cleaning of the mineral deposits that can build up on the nozzles over time. So you won’t have to scrub with a lot of force or use harsh chemicals to get rid of the deposits. A simple brisk rubbing over the deposits with your hands should do the trick.

So it looks great and it’s easy to maintain, and it can offer a rain shower spray pattern with the strong force of a normal shower head. Just remember that the shower arm is a separate purchase (although it’s worth the money). Also, be mindful of your water usage. The large size of the shower head and the strong water flow may use up all your hot water faster than you’d think.

Speakman S-2005-HB Shower Head

Editors' Rating:

This is an extremely popular shower head, and part of its popularity is due to the fact that it is being used in the best hotels and resorts in the world. It is made of a special lightweight engineered plastic, but it comes in several attractive finishes. You can get it in brushed or polished chrome or nickel.

Since it is found in many hotels, many people have made it a point to have one installed in their homes to give their own bathrooms a hotel-ish vibe alongside a premium-looking toilet to help them forget about steam shower rooms.

What makes the Speakman S-2005-HB special is its patented Anystream technology. This technology gives you a fully customizable showering experience that will satisfy any preference or desire. And what’s more, it is very simple to operate.

It offers up to 50 full coverage spray jets, along with 8 types of pulsating jets. And all you need to do to pick a spray option is to rotate the handle of the shower head, which can turn a full 360 degrees. You can enjoy a regular shower, a gentle soak under the rain, or a therapeutic massage.

The head swivels so you can adjust its direction, and it is possible to remove the flow restrictor if you want to. It comes with a 2.5 gpm flow rate, although there’s another version with just a 2 gpm flow rate for the water conservationists.

And it’s also as simple to install as it is easy to operate. It will only take you a few minutes to take the shower head from its packaging and into the arm of your shower head. Even the nozzles are self-cleaning.

So all in all, you get a truly invigorating shower that will give you the precise shower experience you want. And the shower head looks elegant and luxurious, which really improves the look of any bathroom.

Just a few caveats though. It’s somewhat more expensive (great looks and features have their price). And if you remove the flow restrictor, you may void the lifetime warranty. So use it as is, and enjoy your individualized shower experience for the rest of your life instead.

Hansgrohe 27474001

Editors' Rating:

The first thing you’ll probably notice is that the Hansgrohe 27474001 is huge. The shower head measures 9.4 inches across, and that’s enough to really make you feel like you’re showering under the rain.

Then you will also notice that its design is true first class. It comes in a chrome or brushed nickel finish, and the entire shower head looks like a classic rendition of the solar system with its concentric rings.

The nozzles are made from flexible silicon, and they’re arranged. What really enhances the rainshower experience is the integration of the AirPower technology. Somehow, the shower head infuses the water droplets that fall on you with air. So these water droplets seem bigger and yet they feel so much softer. It’s another great example of German engineering at its finest.

At the same time, you can also use it for strong massaging showers. It comes with a standard flow rate of 2.5 gpm, but it may seem like 6 gpm to you with the right settings. So instead of a gentle shower, you can experience the cleansing power of a waterfall.

But that’s not the only technological innovation it features. It also has the QuickClean function, which enables you to clean the shower head of mineral deposits much more easily. All you need to do is to rub the deposits away with your thumb, and you can clean off the dirt so that you get your perfect shower experience every time.

While this is a rainshower model, it is designed for wall-mounted installation. So you will need to buy an arm for this shower head. Also, its warranty is only for a year, but that shouldn’t be a cause for concern. Many customers have updated their shower head reviews to report that their Hansgrohe 27474001 is still working perfectly even after a couple of years.

It is expensive compared to no-name brands, but then you’re paying for the features and for its elegant design. Just ignore its seemingly cheap packaging. What you’re paying for is inside the box. All in all, this is the best shower head amongst rain shower models, according to many users and pros alike.

Thunderhead TH2.5 Shower Head

Editors' Rating:

The Thunderhead TH2.5 measures 9 inches across, and that’s actually larger than you might think especially when you install it in a small apartment bathroom. But it looks good in a bigger bathroom, and really shows you how well it does in a large space.

First of all, installing the Thunderhead TH2.5 is ridiculously easy. You just take the small shower arm coupling and then thread it into the shower pipe securely.

That’s it — you don’t even need tools for the installation. With that done, you can enjoy a great full body shower with the downward flowing water from the shower head and its 90 nozzles. What’s great about the shower arm is that it is adjustable in so many ways. This shower arm is called the Acrobat, and has 4 self-locking ratchet joints. These joints allow you to move the shower head up or down or sideways, and you can do this without having to adjust the wing nuts.

What that means is that regardless of the position of the wall mount for the shower, you can direct the shower to any spot in the shower stall. And it can accommodate your height so that every member of the family will have the shower head over their heads. And if you want, you can also fold it so that it functions like a normal wall-mounted shower head.

Another notable feature of the Thunderhead TH2.5 is that it can compensate very well with low pressure. When water merely drips to your body, a shower can take too long which can be annoying when you’re hurrying to get to work on time. But this shower head somehow boosts the pressure so you get a firm and wide spray.Cleaning the nozzles is a bit more involved, however. You’ll have to squeeze the pliable nozzles to clear the mineral deposits from the spray jets. That sounds simple, but there are 90 of them.

Also, the Thunderhead TH2.5 looks a bit too simple. It’s built for function, so you only get a molded white plastic. That’s probably so that it doesn’t weigh too much for the extension arm. However, if you have nice metallic faucets and other features, the white plastic may stick out unfavorable

Waterpik AST 233C Aquascape

Editors' Rating:

If you’re a fan of unique designs and you’re tired of the square or circular options, then you’ll appreciate the modern oval shape of the 10-inch Waterpik AST 233C Aquascape. But that’s not its only good feature. You’ll also love how it is to install without the need for tools.

Once it is mounted, you can enjoy its two functions—total body spray and power spray.

You can switch between the two easily enough, so that you can drench your entire body immediately and then focus the spray to a particular spot. It offers some economic benefits, since it conserves a half-gallon of water per minute without reducing the effective power of the spray. And if the water pressure isn’t enough for your needs, you can just use a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the white plastic flow restrictor inside. That’ll take you all of 5 seconds.

And speaking of economic benefits, it even comes with a limited lifetime warranty. If it breaks down due to normal use, you can just ask for a replacement.

The only problem with this is that some people are reporting how the water intensity adjuster can break. This may be due to very high water pressure, so you may want to hold off removing the flow restrictor. And removing this may also invalidate the warranty.

Any of these shower heads are great options for you, if you’re not looking for a handheld showerhead or for more esoteric features. These mounted shower heads can offer a gentle downpour or an invigorating spray, and that should be enough for most people. All these offer quality shower experiences, reliable durability, and excellent design.

In the first part of this guide, we focused a lot on wall-mounted and rainshower models. Now were going to take a closer look at some of the other types of shower heads that you may be thinking of buying. So in the interest of providing a more comprehensive information about shower heads, we’re going to take a closer look at various shower head types and also provide examples for each one.

Our choices will also be partly determined by the number of positive reviews received by that particular model. Also, we’re going to pick one that offers more value for your money.

Rainshower Models

Exactly why have rainshower heads become all the rage lately? There are several reasons for this. One is that these shower heads provide you with a wider coverage area. Often these shower heads measure at least 8 inches in diameter. This means you won’t have to move around in the shower to rinse the soap from your body or to wash yourself. Standing under a rainshower head is like standing in the rain - you get wet everywhere instantaneously.

The water can also feel much gentler on your skin. When you’re tired after a hard day’s work, you may not want an invigorating shower. Instead, you may opt for a gentle shower that soothe your nerves and get you to relax. Instead of a continuous spray, rainshower heads may offer water droplets to simulate a rain shower experience.

But that doesn’t always mean that you’re limited to such a soft and gentle shower. In the morning, you can usually adjust the settings in some shower head models so that the water stream can be as tough as you want. In the morning an invigorating shower can make you ready for work, and when you come home you may also want a strong stream of water to massage your aching muscles.

Finally, rainshower heads tend to look modern and elegant. This is especially true for the high end models. They look great in new condos and modern high tech homes, and they can also match the finish of the various bathroom fixtures.

The other rainshower heads we mentioned it the first part of this article mostly covered the models with multiple functions. In other words, you can adjust the setting so that you can have a strong spray of water from the shower head. But if you insist of a gentle shower experience each time, you need to take a look at these rainshower-exclusive heads:

Delta RP52382 Touch Clean Raincan

Editors' Rating:

While this may be a single-setting shower head, it doesn’t mean that the spray is weak. In fact, it’s strong enough that you won’t really have to remove the flow constrictor. Factor in the 8-inch diameter of the shower head, and you get wide coverage with your rainshower experience

It looks great as well. The fluid lines of the disk go well with the chrome finish, which makes it look like a silver spaceship.

That’s especially true when it is installed from the ceiling, so that it hovers over your head like a benevolent alien spacecraft. Just about every Delta RP52382 review harps about how relaxing and satisfying a shower under this raincan can feel. What’s more, it is also very easy to clean and the design helps you save water (especially when the flow constrictor remains installed).

However, you may want to have a contractor set this up in the bathroom for you. It’s a great choice, especially if you’re picking a new showerhead for a major bathroom remodeling.

Editors' Rating:

This looks really great, as the 8-inch disc shows off the finish to good effect. You can choose polished chrome, vibrant brushed nickel or bronze, vibrant polished nickel, or vibrant modern brushed gold.

It comes with the Katalyst air-induction technology, which infuses the water with air so that the water droplets are bigger and therefore luxuriously gentler.

At the same time, a bigger water droplet means that it is warmer, so your rainshower experience is warmer by half a degree. The spray pattern is also specifically designed to offer consistent and powerful coverage, no matter just how weak your normal water pressure is in your home. And finally, it optimizes each drop so you can conserve water.

This is meant to be mounted on the ceiling, so a professional contractor will have to set it up for you. It is also possible to mount it on your bathroom wall with an extension arm, but that’s a separate purchase. And make sure you get a sturdy extension arm because this Kohler has a heft to it.

Handheld Shower Heads

Leave this type of shower head on the wall and it functions just like a regular wall-mounted shower head. But you have the option of taking it in your hand so you can point the water spray to any direction or spot you want. You won’t have to move around too much under the shower head to drench every part of your body.

Also, this is very effective when you’re bathing your kids or getting your pet all clean. They can just stand there under the shower while you clean every spot in their body.

Delta 58065-RB In2ition

Editors' Rating:

The Delta In2ition really looks attractive with its modern design and you can choose from stainless, chrome, Venetian bronze, or champagne bronze finish.

It comes with a long UltraFlex hose that measures 69 inches. It’s also easy to clean, as it features TouchClean spray holes that make it easy for you to remove the hard water mineral deposits inside the nozzles.

The most notable feature of the Delta In2ition is that it offers 4 different settings. It offers a full spray and a massage spray option, and you can also get a full spray with massage experience. The fourth is a relaxing slow massage spray that feels gentle on your skin. Overall, this is one of the best shower heads if you're looking for the handheld variant.

Grohe 28179000 Relexa Plus Top 4

Editors' Rating:

This is the renowned DreamSpray which measures 3.25 inches. This also offers 4 different spray patterns. There’s the Wide Spray option that drenches your body immediately so you can relax, while the Needle Jet spray will wake you up with its circular focused water stream.

The Massage spray pattern pulsates so it can relieve your muscle tension, while the Champagne option offers a water-efficient spray pattern with large droplets filled with air for a relaxing cleanse. All these spray options work well enough even with non-optimal water pressure as it's a high pressure shower head. You also won’t have to worry about twisting the hose, as it comes with the integrated GrohClick snap coupling.

Maintenance is simple, as the Relexa Plus Top 4 features the SpeedClean anti-limescale protection. What that means is that you can just remove the mineral deposits from the water simply by swiping your fingers against the dirt.

It is a bit more expensive (it is a Grohe, after all) but at least you save some money with the installation because it’s easy enough to do it yourself.

Rejuvenator MBS-2011V2 Micro Bubble Hand Held

Editors' Rating:

Here’s how a sower normally works: you stand under the shower to drench your skin with water, and then you use soap to detach the grime from your skin. Then you use the water to wash the soap and the dirt away. It’s simple, effective, and easy to understand. But that’s not really how the Rejuvenator MBS-2011V2.

You see, this time they offer what they call their Microbubble technology. This time, the cleaning doesn’t just start and stop with the surface of your skin.

Instead, it reaches deep inside your pores (this is where the “micro” comes in) so that you feel cleansed like never before. It feels like you’ve spent some time in a spa where you sweat out all the dirt within your pores so you feel truly clean and really invigorated. And that’s why it called the Rejuvenator.

It’s easy enough to install that you won’t need any tools to get it done. The hose measures 1.5 meters and it comes with anti-corrosion properties. The jets are also self-cleaning, so that you only need to wipe the mineral deposits away.

But this is made in China, where manufacturing standards aren’t always topnotch. So you may have some durability problems down the road. It only comes with a 30-day warranty, and that’s only for manufacturer defects.

Dual Shower Heads

If one is good, two may be better. This seems like a perfectly logical bit of reasoning when it comes to these dual shower heads. After all, two shower heads offer a far greater area of water coverage, so you don’t have to constantly move around the shower stall to make sure you’re drenched from head to toe. If you’re constantly late for work because showering with a single shower head takes too long, then two shower heads can cut down the time considerably. And sometimes one of these shower heads can be handheld, which gives you greater options.

Also, this can be good for two people. Couples can take a shower together either for romantic reasons or for both people to get to work on time. Or a mom can take a shower while giving her small child a bath as well.

Ana Bath SS5450CBN

Editors' Rating:

Now this is an excellent choice, and it starts with its great look. The whole set comes with a brushed nickel finish, and that includes the handheld shower and shower head, the shower hose, and the 3-way diverter mount. Right away it upgrades the look of your bathroom in a major way.

And it will also upgrade your shower experience. The installation for the dual shower heads is easy, as you won’t need a power drill.

You won’t even need a screwdriver! All you need are your hands to set the system up. And when that’s done, you get a dual shower head system with a handheld shower head for more options.

That’s what the Ana Bath SS5450CBN is all about: more options. It’s why it actually offers 5 different functions. You start with 3 different spray options with saturating spray, massage spray, and the effervescent bubbling spray. Then you also get the saturating spray and massage spray combo along with the saturating spray and bubbling spray.

Now you may be worrying about wasting water, since you have 2 shower heads. But you actually save water because your showers take less time. In addition, it also has some built-in water-saving technology, starting with the 2.31 gpm flow rate.

It comes with a 3-year warranty, which isn’t all that bad. It may not be a lifetime warranty, but it certainly is more useful (and more reassuring) than a mere 30-day warranty. Several Ana Bath SS5450CBN reviews have noted that it does last for quite a while, and it still looks great after a few years

AKDY 3-way Overhead Luxury Chrome Shower Head Set

Editors' Rating:

With this one, you get a handheld shower head to go along with a rainshower head. Here you have 3 options for its use. You can just use the handheld, use the rainshower head, or use the both together.

The Rainfall shower head measures 7 inches per each side, while the hand shower measures 4 inches across. Each one has two settings, so you can pick between the High Efficiency Spray setting that will clean you up quickly and the Pulsating Massage spray that will relieve all those tired muscles

Like most top shower heads, this one doesn’t need any tools for the installation. It already comes with the conical brass hose nuts so you can tighten them securely by hand. And the 5-foot stainless steel hose looks great, and it is extremely flexible too. The overhead brackets can be adjusted, so that you get the precise angle of water spray you want.

It is made from ABS thermo material so it can handle hot showers nicely. Perhaps the only problem with it is that this material seems to make it feel cheap and plastic-y. And make sure you install the mount for the handheld shower head correctly so that it will stay up.

Shower Heads with Speakers

Admit it; you like to sing in the shower! Well, why won’t you? After all, the bathroom acoustics are excellent and there’s no one around to complain that you’re off-key. But singing is better when you can sing along to real music. You can keep up with the beat, maintain the proper tune, and remember the lyrics. And to do all these, you’ll need the best shower head with speakers.

For cheaper models, you may be limited to just AM and FM radio, which can be a drag. But better ones come with Bluetooth or even Wi-Fi connectivity. So you can connect your smartphone to the device and sing along your music without worrying about getting your smartphone wet. Now if you already have a great shower system set up in your bathroom, all you need to do is to get a Bluetooth speaker system that’s designed to work with your shower, or you can get a bluetooth shower head which will save you from the hassle of tinkering with your existing shower head.

Knox Shower Head

Editors' Rating:

But if you’re buying a new shower head, you can just get the Knox showerhead. The shower head measures 8 inches in diameter and offers a great rainshower experience.

You’ll be able to sing in the rain with the Bluetooth speakers, and a single charge of its rechargeable battery gives you 10 hours of music. All you need to do is make sure that your smartphone is within 10 meters away.

And what if you get a call on your smartphone while you’re in the shower? That’s no problem! It has a microphone built-in, and you can just press a button to stop the music and answer the call. And you don’t even have to stop the water, as the microphone comes with a background noise cancellation feature.

LED Shower Heads

DreamSpa LED Shower Head

Editors' Rating:

Do you like a trippy shower experience? Try out an LED shower head that changes the color of the water with its LED light.

This can help with children who don’t always like to take a shower, as the lights can be fascinating for young eyes.

It can help you relax in the shower as well. And in some cases, the lights can even signal the temperature of the water, so you’re not surprised when the water is extremely cold or very hot.

Luminex Air-Turbo

Editors' Rating:

While this dual shower head system is excellent with its 4 different functions, it is the use of 7 different LED colors that make all it unique. The colors can change constantly, and they’re not powered by batteries at all.

The running water powers the lights, which mean that you can’t really turn off the lights. But why would you? They’re great and trippy and showering in the dark has never been as fun as this.

Types of Shower Heads

Wall-Mounted Shower Heads:

This is the traditional type of shower head, and they remain vastly popular all over the world. As the name says, it is mounted on the wall, usually high above your head so the water comes to you at an angle. Some of the newer shower heads can be adjusted so that you can change its direction and angle.

Also, many new wall-mounted shower heads offer several types of spray patterns. The water spray can be concentrated so that it can provide a massage sensation. Other options include mist and pulsating spray patterns.

The rain shower head is a more recent development. It is another version of a fixed shower head, but this time it is mounted to your ceiling instead of to your wall. This offers a directly downward trajectory for the water, which simulates the feeling of standing under a rainfall. This is why this type of shower head is usually bigger so that it can drench your entire body instead of a specific part of your body.

Usually, this type of shower head doesn’t really offer spray pattern options. Instead, the water drops come to you gently so you can feel more relaxed while taking your shower.

This is like the wall-mounted shower head. However, what makes it different is - as the name says - you can manually direct the shower head by holding it in one hand. The shower head is usually attached to a flexible hose.

The handheld shower head offers several advantages. For one, you can point it to hit the specific body part you want to clean. It’s also easier to use when you’re sitting down while showering. And the handheld makes your job easier when you’re showering your kids or your pet dog.

So, that's all for this guide. Who says you can’t customize your shower experience? Pick one with the features you want, and start enjoying a shower experience tailored to fit your needs and your preferences!
